Forsaken
Forsaken is the second book in The Forgotten series and picks up with Sheriff Hayden Duke thrown into a world he has never actually seen before. After everything that happened aboard the Pilgrim, he is now separated from his wife and surrounded by monsters, hostile survivors, and a society that is nothing like the life he grew up expecting.
What started as a fairly simple mystery in the first book turns into something much bigger here. Hayden is still stubborn, determined, and completely focused on finding his wife, which gives the story a strong personal reason to keep moving even as the world opens up around him. I liked how the setting changed the feel of the series without losing the mystery and danger that made the first book work.
The Goods
- Hayden remains a strong lead
- The world expands in an interesting way
- Good mix of action and survival
- Strong personal motivation
- Keeps the larger mystery moving
The Bads
- Some side characters need more depth
- The action can feel repetitive
- A few developments happen quickly
- The new world takes time to understand
- Works best if Forgotten is still fresh
My Recommendation
This is a solid follow-up for readers who enjoyed Forgotten and wanted to see what was really waiting beyond the Pilgrim. The shift into a much larger and more dangerous world gives the series fresh energy, while Hayden’s search for his wife keeps everything grounded emotionally. If you enjoy post-apocalyptic science fiction with military action, alien threats, survival, and a main character who simply refuses to give up, Forsaken is a strong second book in the series.
