Where She Went
Where She Went picks up years after If I Stay, this time from Adam’s point of view. He’s successful on the outside, but emotionally he’s still carrying everything that happened with Mia and the way their relationship fell apart. When the two unexpectedly cross paths again in New York, all that unfinished history comes right back to the surface.
I liked that this book didn’t just try to recreate the first one. Adam’s perspective gives the story a different kind of sadness, and some of their conversations felt more intimate than the romantic scenes. There were moments when I wanted to shake both of them and tell them to just talk, but that frustration also made the second-chance side feel more believable.
The Goods
- Adam gets a lot more depth
- Strong second-chance romance
- The music side works really well
- Good emotional payoff
- The conversations between Mia and Adam feel real
The Bads
- Can be very heavy emotionally
- Some conflict comes from poor communication
- The pacing is slow in places
- A few moments feel a little melodramatic
- Works best if If I Stay is still fresh
My Recommendation
This is a strong follow-up if you liked If I Stay and wanted more from Adam and Mia’s relationship after everything they went through. I appreciated that the book let both of them be hurt, angry, and imperfect instead of pretending love automatically fixes everything. If you like emotional YA romance, second chances, music, and characters finally saying the things they’ve been avoiding for years, Where She Went gives the first book a much fuller ending.
