Utopia Project: Everyone Must Die
Utopia Project was a solid read for me. The constant pressure on the characters is where it really clicked, and that was enough to keep me invested.
The world feels dangerous all the time. It is easy to keep turning pages. Strong survival tension.
The weaker part is that the constant danger can flatten the emotional beats. It bothered me now and then, but not enough to ruin the book. Those issues are noticeable, but they never take over the book.
The Goods
- The world feels dangerous all the time
- Easy to keep turning pages
- Strong survival tension
- The world feels bigger than what is shown on the page
- The speculative idea actually affects the characters' choices
The Bads
- Some survival beats repeat
- A few slower stretches
- There are stretches where the setup slows the momentum
- A few side characters could use more depth
- Some big ideas get less page time than they deserve
My Recommendation
Utopia Project is worth trying if high-stakes world-building, survival pressure, and speculative ideas that actually affect the characters sounds like your kind of read. It is probably not the best fit if you need every part of the world explained in detail or you dislike stretches of setup between the bigger moments. For the right reader, the things it does well easily outweigh the rougher sections.
