No Way Back
No Way Back is the third book in the Forgotten Fallout series and brings Sheriff Hayden Duke’s story to its biggest point yet. By now he’s dealing with monsters, alien threats, old enemies, and the fallout from everything he’s already survived, while still trying to protect the people closest to him.
What worked for me was how the story kept widening without completely losing that western sheriff feel that made the series fun in the first place. Every answer seemed to create two more questions for a while, but the bigger conflict finally starts coming together here. Some of the action gets pretty relentless, but Hayden’s stubborn personality and the sense that the whole world is hanging in the balance kept me invested.
The Goods
- Strong payoff to the trilogy
- Hayden stays a fun lead
- Good mix of western and military sci-fi
- The larger alien mystery comes together
- Fast pacing
The Bads
- The action can get relentless
- Some side characters need more depth
- A few reveals happen very quickly
- Works best if the first two books are fresh
- Not much downtime
My Recommendation
This is a solid finish if you’ve followed the Forgotten Fallout trilogy from the beginning and want to see Sheriff Duke’s story actually pay off. I liked how the series went from a rough wasteland mystery into something much bigger without completely losing the personality that made Hayden fun to follow. If you enjoy post-apocalyptic sci-fi with alien threats, western energy, military action, and a main character who just keeps charging into trouble, No Way Back wraps things up really well.
