No Good Deed
No Good Deed is the second book in the Forgotten Fallout series and throws Sheriff Hayden Duke straight back into trouble while he’s still trying to figure out what’s really happening on Earth. His search for answers leaves him without his horse, working alongside a wanted man, and chasing an enemy that turns out to be much worse than the one he thought he was dealing with.
I liked that this one kept opening up the larger mystery instead of just giving Hayden another survival mission. Every answer seemed to create two more questions, and his stubborn need to get involved whenever something feels wrong keeps dragging him into bigger problems. Some of the action feels familiar if you’ve read a lot of M.R. Forbes, but Hayden’s personality and the growing alien threat kept me invested.
The Goods
- Hayden is still a fun main character
- The larger mystery keeps expanding
- Good mix of survival and sci-fi
- Fast pacing
- The new enemy raises the stakes
The Bads
- Some action feels familiar
- A few side characters need more depth
- The story can get hectic
- Some answers are held back for later
- Works best if the first book is fresh
My Recommendation
This is a solid follow-up if you liked No Planet for Good Men and wanted more of Sheriff Duke getting dragged into situations that keep turning into complete disasters. I liked how the book made the threat feel bigger without losing the rough post-apocalyptic feel of the first one. If you enjoy military sci-fi, alien mysteries, wasteland survival, and a main character who just can’t leave trouble alone, No Good Deed keeps the Forgotten Fallout series moving nicely.
