Isolation is the second book in the Forgotten Vengeance series and picks up with Earth already under siege while Proxima still believes it’s safe. That illusion doesn’t last long. The enemy has been planning for years, and both worlds start realizing they’re dealing with something far bigger than one invasion or one battlefield.

I liked that this one widened the conflict instead of just repeating Invasion. What started as a war between humanity and an outside threat turns into something much more desperate, with people on both Earth and Proxima being forced to step up in completely different ways. Some sections move pretty fast, but the bigger scale and the feeling that nowhere is really safe kept me invested.

The Goods

  • Bigger stakes than the first book
  • Strong military sci-fi tension
  • Earth and Proxima both feel important
  • Good sense of desperation
  • Keeps the larger war moving

The Bads

  • A lot of characters to keep track of
  • Some viewpoints are stronger than others
  • The pacing can get hectic
  • A few side characters need more depth
  • Works best if Invasion is still fresh

My Recommendation

This is a strong follow-up if you liked Invasion and wanted the Forgotten Vengeance series to get bigger and more desperate. I liked that the danger spreads beyond Earth and forces both sides of humanity into the same fight, because it makes the whole conflict feel much more serious. If you enjoy military science fiction with alien threats, multiple battlefronts, and characters trying to hold things together when everything keeps getting worse, Isolation does a good job of raising the stakes.
