Invasion
Invasion is the first book in the Forgotten Vengeance series and jumps between two very different versions of humanity. Earth has been wrecked by an earlier alien invasion, while the people who escaped to Proxima have built something far more advanced and peaceful. Then a new threat appears, and suddenly both worlds are dragged into the same fight.
What started as a pretty straightforward alien-invasion setup turned into something much bigger than I expected. I liked how the book brought together soldiers, pilots, engineers, and survivors from different backgrounds instead of relying on one hero to carry everything. There’s a lot happening, and some of it moves pretty fast, but the scale of the conflict and the contrast between Earth and Proxima kept me interested.
The Goods
- Big sense of scale
- Good mix of military sci-fi and space opera
- Earth and Proxima feel very different
- Strong alien threat
- The multiple viewpoints keep things moving
The Bads
- A lot of characters to keep track of
- Some viewpoints are stronger than others
- The pacing can get hectic
- A few side characters need more depth
- Some exposition slows things down
My Recommendation
This is a good fit if you like military science fiction, alien invasions, and stories that jump between ruined Earth and a much more advanced human colony. I liked that the book made the conflict feel bigger than one battlefield, and the different characters gave the story a lot of moving parts without completely losing the main threat. If you enjoy fast space opera with soldiers, aliens, old grudges, and humanity being pushed into another fight for survival, Invasion is a strong start to the Forgotten Vengeance series.
