Contain
Contain is set after a devastating outbreak known as the Flense has wiped out most of civilization. Finnian Bolles has spent years living inside Bunker Eight, where survival depends on strict rules, limited supplies, and trusting the people around him even when nobody seems to know the full truth.
The book mixes bunker survival, infection horror, and mystery, with a lot of tension coming from the feeling that the outside world may not be the only danger. Finn’s need for answers about the Flense and what happened beyond the bunker keeps the story moving, while the closed setting makes everything feel more claustrophobic and uncertain.
The Goods
- Strong bunker-survival atmosphere
- Good mystery around the Flense
- Claustrophobic setting works well
- Easy to get pulled into
- Sets up the larger series nicely
The Bads
- Some characters could use more depth
- The bunker setup feels familiar
- A few answers take a while to arrive
- The pacing slows in places
- Some survival details repeat
My Recommendation
This is a good fit for readers who like post-apocalyptic fiction, infected stories, and survival books set in closed, tense environments. The bunker setting gives the story a strong sense of pressure, while the mystery around the Flense keeps it from feeling like just another outbreak novel. If you enjoy hidden secrets, limited resources, and characters slowly realizing they may not know as much about their situation as they thought, Contain is a solid start to the series.
