Sanctum

Book 9 of Slow Burn

Post-Apocalyptic, Horror, Thriller

Book Score8.5out of 10
Plot & Storyline 8.5/10
Characters 9/10
Dialogue / Writing Style 8/10

Sanctum brings Zed and Murphy to College Station after the destruction of the Naked Horde and the Survivor Army, with both of them hoping they might finally be able to help build something instead of just surviving. Of course, the post-virus world has other plans, and what they find on the road is nothing like what they expected.

The book feels like a payoff for everything that came before it. There is still danger and action, but there is also more focus on hope, friendship, and whether there is actually a future left worth fighting for. Zed and Murphy’s bond carries a lot of the story, and the ending gives the series a more emotional finish than you might expect from a zombie survival series.

The Goods

  • Strong ending for the series
  • Zed and Murphy are still the highlight
  • Good mix of action and emotion
  • More hopeful than earlier books
  • Feels like a real payoff

The Bads

  • Some parts move quickly
  • A few side characters get limited time
  • Depends heavily on the earlier books
  • Not every storyline gets equal attention
  • The ending may feel too neat for some readers

My Recommendation

This is a very satisfying choice for readers who have made it all the way through the Slow Burn series and want a proper payoff for Zed and Murphy’s journey. Sanctum still has the danger, infected, and survival tension the series is known for, but it also gives the characters more room for hope and closure. The emotional side lands especially well because you have spent so much time with these characters, and if you have enjoyed the friendship between Zed and Murphy from the beginning, this is a strong way to wrap up that part of their story.
