Destroyer

Book 3 of Slow Burn

Post-Apocalyptic, Horror, Thriller

Book Score8out of 10
Plot & Storyline 8.5/10
Characters 8/10
Dialogue / Writing Style 8/10

Destroyer continues Zed’s story after the events of Infected, with him dealing with loss, anger, and the need to keep moving in a world that keeps getting worse. Mandi and Russell become more important here, while Zed’s obsession with finding Mark pushes him into even more dangerous situations.

This book feels more personal than the first two because a lot of Zed’s choices are driven by grief and revenge rather than simple survival. There is still plenty of infected chaos, but the emotional side of the story matters more, and the hospital storyline gives the book some of its strongest tension.

The Goods

  • Zed gets more emotional depth
  • Strong sense of anger and loss
  • Good continuation of the hospital storyline
  • Mandi and Russell add something different
  • Fast, tense pacing

The Bads

  • Zed can be reckless to the point of frustration
  • Some action starts to feel repetitive
  • A few characters still feel lightly developed
  • The revenge angle can overpower other parts
  • Not much downtime between major events

My Recommendation

This is a strong entry for readers already invested in the Slow Burn series and especially for anyone who likes Zed as a main character. Destroyer gives him more emotional weight by pushing him through grief, anger, and revenge while still keeping the survival side moving quickly. If you enjoy zombie fiction that mixes action with a flawed main character making messy decisions under pressure, this one fits the series very well.
