Book review by Corey
NLP
NLP looks at neuro-linguistic programming as a way to better understand how thoughts, language, habits, and communication can shape the way we react to things. A lot of the book is built around practical techniques for changing patterns, setting goals, building confidence, and becoming more aware of how you communicate with yourself and other people.
I liked that the book gave me things I could actually try instead of just talking about mindset in a vague way. Some of the ideas definitely made me stop and think about how automatic certain habits can become, although a few techniques felt a little too neat or simplified for me. It wasn’t a perfect read, but there was a lot here that I genuinely enjoyed and could see being useful in everyday life.
The Goods
- Lots of practical exercises
- Easy to apply some ideas right away
- Good focus on communication
- Makes you notice your own habits and patterns
- Clear step-by-step approach
The Bads
- Some ideas feel oversimplified
- A few techniques may not work for everyone
- Can get repetitive
- Some claims feel stronger than the evidence behind them
- Certain sections feel dated
My Recommendation
This is a good fit if you’re interested in self-development, communication, confidence, and understanding why you react to situations the way you do. I liked that there were enough exercises to actually test the ideas instead of just reading about them, even though I wouldn’t take every claim in the book at face value. If you enjoy practical self-help and you’re open to experimenting with different ways of thinking and communicating, NLP has quite a few useful ideas to take away from it.
