Lost Gods
Lost Gods follows Chet Moran after his life takes a violent turn and he ends up trapped in a strange underworld filled with dead gods, monsters, and things that definitely shouldn’t exist. What starts as a desperate attempt to get back to the woman he loves turns into a much bigger journey through a brutal place where every new encounter feels more dangerous than the last.
I loved the slightly eerie feeling that never quite went away, and Brom’s world-building is easily the strongest part for me. The underworld feels huge, ugly, and full of its own rules without everything being explained right away. A few sections dragged a little, but the creatures, mythology, and constant sense that Chet was in way over his head kept me invested.
The Goods
- Great dark-fantasy atmosphere
- Very imaginative underworld
- The creatures and gods are memorable
- Strong sense of danger
- The mythology feels original
The Bads
- The pacing slows in places
- Some characters feel a little distant
- A few sections get pretty dense
- The world can be confusing at first
- Not every subplot lands equally well
My Recommendation
This is a good fit if you like dark fantasy, underworld stories, mythology, and horror mixed together in one big strange adventure. I liked how the book kept making the world feel bigger without completely explaining every corner of it, and the creatures were some of the most memorable parts. If you enjoy grim fantasy with gods, monsters, violence, and a hero trying to survive somewhere he really doesn’t belong, Lost Gods is definitely worth trying.
