Desperation

Book 3 of Forgotten Colony

Science Fiction

Book Score8out of 10
Plot & Storyline 8.5/10
Characters 8/10
Dialogue / Writing Style 8/10

Desperation continues the Forgotten Colony series with Caleb and the people around Deliverance under even more pressure as the larger conflict starts closing in. Supplies, trust, and survival are all becoming harder to manage, and every new problem makes it clearer that the colony is part of something much bigger than anyone originally understood.

The book keeps the pace high and leans heavily into military survival, alien threats, and the feeling that the characters are running out of good options. It is a tense middle entry that pushes the story forward while making the situation around Deliverance feel more dangerous and unstable.

The Goods

  • Strong sense of pressure
  • Good military sci-fi tension
  • The colony feels increasingly vulnerable
  • Fast pacing
  • Moves the larger story forward

The Bads

  • Some characters could use more depth
  • The action can feel repetitive
  • A few plot developments happen quickly
  • Works best if you remember the earlier books
  • Not much room for quieter character moments

My Recommendation

This is a solid continuation for readers already into the Forgotten Colony series and wanting the pressure around Deliverance to keep building. Desperation feels more tense and unstable than the earlier books, with fewer safe options and more danger coming from every direction. If you like military science fiction with colony survival, alien conflict, and characters being pushed into harder decisions as the series goes on, this one fits the middle of the story really well.
