Deliverance
Deliverance starts the Forgotten Colony series with humanity already under enormous pressure and a distant colony becoming important to whether people have any real future left. The story quickly builds around military survival, alien threats, and the struggle to protect a population that is running out of safe options.
The book moves fast and does not spend much time easing into the conflict. There is a strong sense of urgency throughout, with battles, difficult command decisions, and the larger question of whether humanity can hold onto anything it has built. It feels like a solid opening chapter for a much bigger military sci-fi story.
The Goods
- Strong start to the series
- Fast pacing
- Good military sci-fi atmosphere
- Large-scale conflict
- Sets up the colony storyline well
The Bads
- Some characters need more depth
- The story moves very quickly
- A few sci-fi ideas could use more explanation
- The action can take over the character work
- Feels heavily like setup for later books
My Recommendation
This is a good starting point for readers who like military science fiction, colony stories, alien threats, and fast-moving space adventure. Deliverance spends a lot of time setting up the larger conflict, but it does enough with the action and survival side to make the beginning of the Forgotten Colony series interesting on its own. If you enjoy sci-fi where humanity is already on the defensive and every decision feels like it could affect the future of an entire colony, this is an easy series to get into.
