Love and Chaos
Love and Chaos is set after a second collapse has reshaped society, leaving the Cities under the control of the New Republic while people in rural Tribes live very differently. Cris has spent her life in one of those Tribes, while Love Ward was raised inside the Venus Guard, so the two women come from completely opposite sides of the same world. When they are forced together, old assumptions start breaking down fast.
The book mixes dystopian science fiction, survival, political tension, and a lesbian romance without letting the relationship swallow the rest of the story. Cris and Love have good chemistry, but the stronger part is watching them question the system around them while uncovering secrets that could get them both killed.
The Goods
- Strong lesbian romance
- Good dystopian setting
- Cris and Love have solid chemistry
- Interesting political tension
- Good balance of romance and survival
The Bads
- Some world-building could be deeper
- A few plot turns feel convenient
- Some side characters are lightly developed
- The political setup can be a little simple
- The romance may feel fast to some readers
My Recommendation
This is a strong choice for readers who like lesbian dystopian fiction, survival stories, and romances where the two women come from very different sides of the same conflict. The relationship between Cris and Love adds a lot of emotion, but there is still enough political tension, danger, and mystery around the New Republic to make the book feel like much more than just a romance. If you enjoy LGBTQ+ sci-fi with enemies-to-lovers energy, oppressive governments, and characters questioning everything they were taught, Love and Chaos is a really enjoyable read.
