Dancing in the Darkness
Dancing in the Darkness follows Charlie, a human mercenary who is called back to the planet Kander for what should be a straightforward rescue mission. She is hired to recover a kidnapped Omega, but the job gets more complicated when she has to work closely with Kal, the planet’s powerful female Alpha ruler, and starts realizing there is much more behind the kidnapping than anyone is saying.
The book mixes science fiction, lesbian romance, Omegaverse elements, and a good amount of action. Charlie and Kal have the strongest chemistry in the story, and the tension between them gives the book more personality than the rescue plot on its own. It ends on a cliffhanger, so this is very much the start of a larger series rather than a complete standalone story.
The Goods
- Strong lesbian romance
- Good chemistry between Charlie and Kal
- Interesting sci-fi setting
- Fast-moving rescue plot
- The Omegaverse elements feel central to the story
The Bads
- Ends on a cliffhanger
- Some world-building could be deeper
- A few side characters feel thin
- The Omegaverse setup will not work for everyone
- Some plot turns happen very quickly
My Recommendation
This is a good fit for readers who like lesbian sci-fi romance, F/F Omegaverse stories, and books that mix action with a strong romantic connection. Charlie and Kal are the main reason to keep reading, and their relationship adds a lot to the rescue mission and larger conflict around them. If you enjoy LGBTQ+ science fiction with erotic romance, unusual world-building, and a series that clearly wants to keep expanding after the first book, Dancing in the Darkness is a solid place to start.
