Finding Jess
Finding Jess follows Sam Hayes years after things fell apart between her and Jess. Sam has built a successful life around her software company and is close to finally selling it, but a new business project forces her back into contact with people from her past, including Jess herself.
The book is really about second chances, old wounds, and whether two people who once hurt each other can actually build something better the next time around. The lesbian romance is the centre of the story, but there is also a lot about friendship, grief, career pressure, and the fear of repeating the same mistakes.
The Goods
- Strong lesbian second-chance romance
- Good emotional history between Sam and Jess
- Believable tension from their shared past
- Nice mix of romance and personal growth
- The wedding setting adds a lot of interaction
The Bads
- Some conflict depends on old misunderstandings
- The pacing can slow in places
- A few side characters pull focus
- The emotional back-and-forth can get repetitive
- Works better if you know the first book
My Recommendation
This is a strong choice for readers who like lesbian romance, second-chance relationships, and stories where the characters already have a lot of emotional history before the book even begins. Sam and Jess have enough hurt between them that the romance feels messy instead of easy, which gives the story more weight. If you enjoy LGBTQ+ contemporary romance with old feelings, unresolved tension, and two women trying to figure out whether they can do things differently this time, Finding Jess is a very solid follow-up to Losing Sam.
