LESLEY A. CAMPHOUSE
Apex Prey is one of the darkest books I have read, and it sits firmly in the splatterpunk lane. It is fast and intense from the start. The story follows Polly, and I felt sick for her at times because of what she goes through. The author does not hold back, and the violence is graphic.
What stood out to me was how the book shows a victim turning into something dangerous. I found it disturbing, but also hard to stop reading. The pacing is quick, and the chapters move like a sprint. I kept wanting to see what Polly would do next, even when I did not want to look.
This is not a book I would suggest to everyone. It has extreme content, including sexual violence themes and heavy gore. If you are sensitive to that, or if you want something lighter, this is not advisable. It is meant for readers who already know they can handle splatterpunk and extreme horror.
Why I’d Recommend It
I’d recommend Apex Prey to readers who want something brutal, raw, and unfiltered. If you like splatterpunk that pushes limits and you enjoy revenge driven stories with a main character who becomes frightening in her own right, this delivers. It is shocking, but it also left me thinking about power, survival, and what pain can turn someone into.
