HEX

THOMAS OLDE HEUVELT

Hex is a horror book about a small town that lives with a horrible curse every day. Black Spring is haunted by the ghost of a woman whose eyes and mouth are sewn shut. She appears in peoples houses, in the street, even next to their beds, and the town has strict rules about her: do not touch her, do not mess with her, do not try to leave the town. I liked how normal life continues around this nightmare. People still go to school, work, and argue with their families, but there is always this witch in the background. The story slowly shows how fear, boredom, and curiosity make people do very bad things, and that part felt very real and very scary.

Goods:
– Very creepy idea, with a ghost that can show up anywhere and rules everyone has to follow
– The town feels real, with normal people trying to live with something truly awful
– The tension builds slowly and leads to some strong, disturbing scenes

Bads:
– The start can feel slow if you want fast action right away
– Some parts are very dark and cruel and might be too much for some readers
– The ending is very bleak and not everyone will like how it turns out

Why I would recommend this book:
I’d recommend Hex if you like horror that is more about mood and people than jump scares. It is a good choice if you enjoy slow, creepy stories where you watch a whole town fall apart under pressure from a curse that no one can escape.

Every book hits differently for every reader.
Thanks for reading my review.
